Few
months ago I took the pictures for "Kiss the tomb," the
latest collection of textile jewelry by the artist Viveka Goyanes,
if you don't know the work of Viveka I highly recommend you to check
her work. She works under the name Amoelbarroco and her pieces
always are related with attire.
Like me, Viveka, feels fascination by past eras, like the Victorian
one.
When
we decided to do this collaboration we soon had a clear reference,
the Victorian spiritualist movement, and the pictures that were made
during this period, a theme that seemed strange and fascinating at the same time for the both of us.
Every
time I start to work on a new series of photographs I like to
look for references (visual or theoretical) that serve as a
starting point. In this case, I used two books that focus on the
spiritual movement, these are:
Entrée
des médiums Spiritisme et Art de Hugo à Breton.
It is a catalog of a temporary exhibition held at la Maison de Victor Hugo in Paris. The catalog includes works by many artists from the "artists as mediums" to the surrealists and their "message automatique”, and it also shows how the movement influenced the art in several aspects.
Le troisième Oeil, la Photographie et l'occulte.
This
is also an exhibition catalog, in this case the exhibition took place
at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris. It's a very
complete catalog that includes pictures of the beginning of the
movement to contemporary artists or aural photographs , among others.
The book focuses on three major themes: spirit photography, fluid
photography and mediums photography.
I've
always had a special fascination for hands, you can see this in this
photoshoot, as I took for reference the molds of the hands of the
medium Franek Kluski. These are paraffin molds made during 1920 -
1922, these molds were made during seánces and had the intention of
demonstrating the appearance of ectoplasm or embodiments. If you want
to know more about it you can look for ¨L'ectoplasmie et la
Clairvoyance” (1924) by Dr Gustave Geley.
For
the pictures I really kept in mind the position of the hands. Here you

Fa uns mesos vaig
realitzar les fotografies de “Kiss the tomb”, la última
col·lecció de joieria tèxtil de l'artista Viveka Goyanes, si no
coneixeu l'obra de la Viveka us recomano molt que hi feu una ullada,
treballa sota el nom de Amoelbarroco i les seves obres sempre tenen a
veure amb la indumentària. Com jo, la Viveka, sent fascinació per
èpoques passades com la victoriana.
Quan vam decidir que
faríem aquesta col·laboració de seguida vam tenir una referència
clara, el moviment espiritualista victorià i el material fotogràfic
que es va realitzar durant aquest període. Un tema que a les dues
ens semblava curiós i fascinant.
Sempre que em plantejo
treballar una sèrie fotogràfica m'agrada buscar referències
(visuals o teòriques) que em serveixin de punt de partida. En aquest
cas, vaig fer servir dos llibres que es centren en el moviment
espiritualista, aquests són:

Es tracta d'un catàleg
d'una exposició temporal que va tenir lloc a la Maison de Victor
Hugo de París. El catàleg recull obres de diversos artistes des
dels “artistes médiums” fins als surrealistes i el seu “message
automatique¨. És una mostra de com el moviment va influenciar l'art
en diversos aspectes.

és el catàleg d'una exposició, en aquest cas va tenir lloc a la

he tingut una fascinació especial per les mans, i per aquesta sessió
no podia ser menys, de manera que vaig prendre com a referent els
motlles de les mans del médium Franek Kluski, Es tracten d'uns
motlles de parafina realitzats durant el 1920-1922, aquests motlles
es realitzaven durant les seánces i tenien la intenció de demostrar
l'aparició d'ectoplasma o materialitzacions. Si en voleu saber més

Dr Gustave Geley.
Per
les fotografies vaig tenir molt en compte la posició de les mans.
